I have been a professional artist for 22 years, first as an illustrator of children’s books, with over 35 books published, and since 2000 as a fine artist focusing on mosaics. My transition between these two worlds was a gradual one, and my work has stylistically undergone a similar steady transformation. While my illustrative skills remain valuable, working in a completely non-representational way has been a compelling personal discovery.  These newest mosaics have received both national and international recognition, and I am excited to continue to produce this category of personal work.

Many of my mosaics are in the public realm: installations range from Percent for Art programs in Florida, Maine and New Hampshire to health care facilities including the Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Private commission installations are located in homes both nationally and internationally. I am passionate about teaching this art form and instruct at several art and craft centers and museums as well as in my own studio. School residencies and community projects round out my schedule, the most recent being the permanent installation of 12 mosaic murals in Shelburne Falls, MA.

I have been the recipient of numerous grants, awards and scholarships, a few notable highlights, I received the Francis Kinnicutt Travel Award for mosaic study in Ravenna, Italy; the Ella Lyman Cabot Trust Foundation Grant for the Shelburne Falls Community Mosaic Project; ‘Pavement Fractals’ won the Best in Show award at the Art of Mosaic, 2009 at the Somerville Museum in Somerville, MA.  My work will be included in Mosaic Art Now, Exhibition in Print, 2011, an international publication featuring the work of 8 mosaic artists worldwide.
